National Book Board Hails RAB in 2009 Awards
Makati City, Dec 09, 2009 - A fruitful, hopeful year for the bureaucracy it has been, as Running A Bureaucracy book was recognized by the national book awards body of the Philippines as one among the most excellent read of the year.
RAB was adjudged as finalist in the Professions category of the 28th National Book Awards held at the Ayala Museum in Makati City given by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Manila Critics Circle (MCC).
Running a Bureaucracy was alongside other worthy works such as Sine Gabay: A Film Study Guide by Nick Deocampo and the Center for New Cinema (Anvil) and Becoming A Guru: An Introduction to Advanced Research by Ramon K. Katigbak (Anvil).
"It was a distinct honor to even be noticed by the prestigious book awards board that is recognized in the country as the judges' circle for this generation's literary works," said Gladys Sta. Rita, RAB author.
Running a Bureaucracy is Sta. Rita's debut entry into the celebrated awards, and was considered by critics as one of the rare instances when new writers are recognized for their unique contribution to the country's body of written knowledge.
The books were shortlisted by several cooperating universities and organizations, including Ateneo School of Government, Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center of De La Salle University, Center for Culinary Arts, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Film Academy of the Philippines, Likhaan, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Philippine Center of International PEN, Philippine Literary Arts Council, Philippine Social Science Council, Semiconductor and Electronic Industries of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, and University of the Philippines.
The awards are administered by the NBDB, under Chair Dennis T. Gonzalez and Executive Director Andrea Pasion-Flores, and the MCC, under Chair Ophelia A. Dimalanta.
